Leadership Camp is supported by an incredible team of coordinators dedicated to empowering teens through creative, hands-on learning and strong mentorship.
Camp will be led by VFSH owner Michelle Machado, a seasoned mentor with over 25 years of experience in youth development. Michelle served as the coordinator of the Sonoma County 4-H Camp for more than two decades, where she specialized in teen leadership training. A mother of three and a dedicated entrepreneur, Michelle is passionate about guiding teens to grow into confident, capable adults. She strongly believes in hands-on, trial-and-error learning as a powerful tool for personal growth. Her approach focuses on helping teens build core life skills, including strong values, sound decision-making,
problem-solving skills, and self-awareness.
Jenny Pellini, a mother of two, brings over 3 decades of experience from her time at Apple Blossom Elementary, where she serves as an after-school program daycare teacher and summer camp coordinator. She has a natural talent for weaving crafts and hands-on activities into meaningful leadership development experiences, helping teens build both skills and confidence in engaging ways.
Mimi Jarvis, mom of one, and the Assistant Principal's Secretary at Archie Williams High School, brings a wealth of insight into teen conflict resolution and organizational strategies. Her deep understanding of adolescent needs makes her a valuable resource for guiding teens through personal and interpersonal challenges.
All three Leadership Camp coordinators are fully fingerprinted and background-checked, either through 4-H or their affiliated school districts, and are first aid/CPR certified, ensuring a safe and trusted environment for all participants.
Originally built in 1900, this one-room schoolhouse educated generations of students until its closure in 1967. As one-room schools across Marin and Sonoma Counties were phased out, the American Valley School—now known as the Valley Ford Schoolhouse—was entrusted to the Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District. For over 20 years, the Valley Ford Volunteer Fire Department lovingly managed and preserved the building. In 2024, local residents Craig and Michelle Machado purchased the schoolhouse with a vision to restore and revitalize the historic community landmark.
The Valley Ford Schoolhouse is a 2300 square foot, one-room schoolhouse built in the early 1900s. It exudes rural, rustic charm with expansive windows, timeworn hardwood floors, and original chalkboards that add to its character. Additionally, the venue features a small kitchen, two restrooms, and a spacious back lot for parking, all with scenic views of the Estero Americano. As it is currently undergoing renovation, the Schoolhouse will be available to rent in Summer 2025! Reach out to learn more or to schedule a visit and discover how you can host your upcoming event in this authentic historic schoolhouse.
The schoolhouse is the ideal setting for your next event. We offer event planning assistance and day-of coordination to ensure everything runs smoothly.
